Obama Calls Wright's Remarks `Ridiculous,' Offensive

By Kristin Jensen

April 29 -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama denounced ``ridiculous'' statements made by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, using his strongest language to date to distance himself from his former pastor.

Obama cited Wright's contentions, repeated yesterday, that the government may have had a role in spreading AIDS in the black community, that U.S. actions overseas were partly to blame for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and about the importance of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Wright's statements ``offend me, they rightly offend all Americans and they should be denounced and that's what I'm doing very clearly and unequivocally today,'' Obama said in a news conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Wright's statements and past sermons have presented an obstacle for Obama as he tries to win over working-class white voters in the remaining Democratic primaries. Recorded snippets from some of Wright's sermons already have been used by Republicans in North Carolina against local Democrats. Obama and his rival, New York Senator Hillary Clinton, face their next test May 6 in contests in Indiana and North Carolina.

New Obstacle

Political analysts said the timing and content of Wright's remarks complicates Obama's efforts to broaden his base of support among white voters and may hurt him if he emerges as the Democratic nominee.

Obama's ``crucial goal'' is trying to connect with working- class voters and the Wright controversy is making that harder, said Glenn Totten, a Democratic political consultant who isn't affiliated with either presidential campaign.

``Every day he has to confront the issue of Wright's rhetoric, he inflames exactly that portion of the electorate he needs to draw to him,'' Totten said.

``It's a fiasco,'' said Michael A. Genovese, chairman of the Institute for Leadership Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. ``With friends like these, who needs enemies?''

Gingrich says Wright may be purposefully hurting Obama

This is a real church sign - not photoshopped, via Instapundit.

Reverend Wright is still crazy after all these years. Transcript of his Twilight Zone performance at the National Press Club.

Gingrich: Wright May Be Deliberately Trying to Hurt Obama

It sort of makes sense that professional race baiting shake-down artists like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and other racial snake oil salesmen, along with black liberation theology ministers, would oppose an Obama presidency. With a black man in office, they are basically out of business. What sort of racist America would vote a black man into office?

WOW! Reverend Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club

You can throw context out the window. He embraces all his terrible remarks. He's not trying to protect Obama at all. He's calling it all an attack on the black church, not an attack on Jeremiah Wright. He's getting death threats however, and Nation of Islam has become his bodyguard.

Wright says criticism is attack on black church

Do you think it is God's will that Senator Obama be president?

A God Gap for Obama?

The Baltimore Sun posted an article today about Obama's worsening appeal with culturally conservative regular churchgoers.

For Obama, the Pennsylvania primary results may be a warning of more trouble ahead in the church pews.

Charles Krauthammer has written an opinion piece titled, Obama's 'Distractions'?

Would you maintain friendly relations with an unrepentant terrorist? Would you even shake his hand? To ask why Obama does is perfectly legitimate and perfectly relevant to understanding what manner of man he is.

Obama's fascination with Marxist ideology

No ObamaNation Part 3: Another Marx brother by Mark Alexander

According to my colleague, Cliff Kincaid, Accuracy in Media editor and president of the UN watchdog group America's Survival, Obama was mentored for most of his formative years by black radical Frank Marshall Davis, a Communist Party USA member. Obama had "a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis," writes Kincaid.

In his book, Dreams from My Father, Obama refers to "Frank" repeatedly, and said that Davis "and his old Black Power dashiki self" was still mentoring him as late as 1979, when he was a student in California. Davis warned Obama that college would give him "an advanced degree in compromise" and not to "start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that s**t."

Kincaid notes that a CPUSA devotee recently said of Obama's political fortunes, "Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary 'mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

Obama's record speaks for itself. In 2006, Senator Obama campaigned for the re-election of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who openly lists his party affiliation as "Socialist." Sanders applauded freshman Sen. Obama as "one of the great leaders of the United States Senate," and understandably so. Last year, National Journal, which rates members of Congress strictly by their voting records, ranked Obama as the single most liberal member of the Senate---a remarkable "achievement," given the Socialist bona fides of the aforementioned Sanders.

When questioned why he refuses to wear an American flag on his lapel, Obama said, "I won't wear it on my chest. It's a substitute for... true patriotism. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals."

No doubt, the true colors of Obama's "values and ideals" are bright red.

Obama as antichrist or merely false prophet?

When I emailed the Washington DC photojournalist about buying one of her Obama photos so I could make a t-shirt, she asked how I was going to use the image. She said someone else had already asked for photos so that they could make a "Barack is antichrist" shirt, and that was the last thing she needed to have happen as she proceeds to put together a book about Obama.

This morning I got my morning Snopes feed, and this is what I found:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/antichrist.asp

While I personally don't think Obama is an antichrist or "THE" Antichrist, I do believe there are antichrists in the world, and that there may be a capital "A" Antichrist who will play a part in future events.

Snopes seems to try to discredit the very existence of antichrist -- which by definition is “anyone or anything that counterfeits the true gospel or plan of salvation and that openly or secretly is set up in opposition to Christ." It was once said that Communism is the greatest anti-Christ power in the world. That was in '80s before the wall came down.

The wall may have come down, but communism is alive and well in the hearts and minds of many people throughout the world. In fact, communism and socialism is alive and well in the hearts and minds of people living right here in the United States. Socialism is only a slower and less violent form of communism, but both are counterfeit to the plan of the Savior, who believed in helping the poor, clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, liberating the captive, and administering relief to the sick and afflicted -- all through the power and freedom of free will and free agency. Never did he intend to do any of this by force.

bringing us together, or strangulation?

One way of testing whether Obama is the candidate of "bringing us together" and "getting past partisan divisions" is to ask him to specify one -- just one -- significant issue on which he would be willing to break ranks with his party and join with the other party. We know McCain has done this all the time, on immigration, campaign finance, tax cuts, "torture" and on and on. In other words -- to state what should be a tautology -- if Obama is going to "bring us together," he has to have a little something for those who in general disagree with him. And that would be....................what? The MSN of course isn't going to ask this, since their version of "bringing us together" is to have conservatives live with getting a 100% liberal agenda jammed down their throats. And this is indeed a sort of "bringing us together," to wit, the sort formerly known as "strangulation. -- Bill Otis

Jeremiah Wright offering fresh fodder to Obama critics

WASHINGTON--The controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright -- Sen. Barack Obama's pastor -- is speaking Monday at the National Press Club as part of a divinity conference of black church leaders. Wright's decision to headline an event at the Press Club -- open to all media -- risks giving Obama's critics more fodder, as if they don't have enough already.

Meanwhile, PBS is touting an interview with Wright to be broadcast Friday on "Bill Moyers' Journal." Fresh material from Wright -- no matter how well-intended -- is not what Obama needs.

Wright's Press Club talk is supposed to be about offering perspective on black churches -- theology, history and politics, and the torrent of coverage stemming from Obama's presidential bid.

This is the Pool he Swims In

Hugh Hewitt and Mark Steyn on Obama's friends: transcript and link to post.

Well, you know, I think this is where Obama is really off the charts. Most Americans, including most Democrats…I mean, I would be stunned to hear a New Hampshire Democrat talk like that. We have a Democratic governor in my state at the moment, and he’s a conventional Democrat in many ways, which is to say he doesn’t go along with this idea that being, having the great privilege to live in the United States of America means you’re living in the belly of the beast. I mean, this is simply the worst kind of hateful anti-Americanism, and this is where Barack Obama lives. This is the pool he swims in. -- Mark Steyn

The Friends of Barack Obama Part 1

What difference does it make that Obama was eight years old? The connection goes way back to 2007. Powerline has sound clips of these people and an explanation of who they are.

Fairness - when you tax to punish. Yeah, that's fair.

MR. GIBSON: And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased. The government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?

SENATOR OBAMA: Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.

the working class is revolutionary or it is nothing

Senator Obama’s election year image is that of a man who can bring the country together, overcoming differences of party or race, as well as solving our international problems by talking with Iran and other countries with which we are at odds, and performing other miscellaneous miracles as needed... Senator Obama is all talk—glib talk, exciting talk, confident talk, but still just talk. Some of his recent talk in San Francisco has stirred up controversy because it revealed yet another blatant contradiction between Barack Obama’s public image and his reality... However inconsistent Obama’s words, his behavior has been remarkably consistent over the years. He has sought out and joined with the radical, anti-Western left, whether Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers of the terrorist Weatherman underground or pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli Rashid Khalidi. Obama is also part of a long tradition on the left of being for the working class in the abstract, or as people potentially useful for the purposes of the left, but having disdain or contempt for them as human beings. Karl Marx said, ‘The working class is revolutionary or it is nothing.’ In other words, they mattered only in so far as they were willing to carry out the Marxist agenda. —Thomas Sowell

ABC's Pennsylvania debate -- Obama sound clips

Why did it take you more than a year to disassociate yourself from Jeremiah Wright's comments?

We will be out of Iraq in 16 months at the most - there should be no confusion about that.

Who's Bitter Now

from Op-Ed Contributor LARRY M. BARTELS to the New York Times.

DURING Wednesday night’s Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia, Barack Obama once more tried to explain what he meant when he suggested earlier this month that small-town people of modest means “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them” out of frustration with their place in a changing American economy. Mr. Obama acknowledged that his wording offended some voters, but he also reiterated his impression that “wedge issues take prominence” when voters are frustrated by “difficult times.”

Last week in Terre Haute, Ind., Mr. Obama explained that the people he had in mind “don’t vote on economic issues, because they don’t expect anybody’s going to help them.” He added: “So people end up, you know, voting on issues like guns, and are they going to have the right to bear arms. They vote on issues like gay marriage. And they take refuge in their faith and their community and their families and things they can count on. But they don’t believe they can count on Washington.”

. . . Mr. Obama should do as well or better among these voters if he is the Democratic candidate in November. If he doesn’t, it won’t be because he has offended the tender sensitivities of small-town Americans. It will be because he has embraced a misleading stereotype of who they are and what they care about.

Obama's church pushes controversial doctrines

By Margaret Talev | McClatchy Newspapers

Jesus is black. Merging Marxism with Christian Gospel may show the way to a better tomorrow. The white church in America is the Antichrist because it supported slavery and segregation.

Those are some of the more provocative doctrines that animate the theology at the core of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Barack Obama's church.

Remarks of Senator Barack Obama to the National Council of La Raza

From Barack's own website, here is his speech, given July 22, 2007.

I have a universal health care plan that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family's premiums by up to $2500 a year. It's a plan that lets the uninsured buy insurance that's similar to the kind members of Congress give themselves. If you can't afford that, you'll get a subsidy to pay for it. And it goes further than any other proposed plan in cutting the cost of health care by investing in technology and preventive care, breaking the stranglehold the drug and insurance industries have on the health care market, and helping business and families shoulder the cost of the most expensive conditions so that an illness doesn't lead to a bankruptcy. And I promise you this - I will sign this universal health care plan by the end of my first term in office as your President. Count on it.

Obama and the Minister

An opinion piece first published at The Wall Street Journal on March 14, 2008 by Ronald Kessler.

Much as most of us would appreciate the symbolism of a black man ascending to the presidency, what we have in Barack Obama is a politician whose closeness to Mr. Wright underscores his radical record.

The media have largely ignored Mr. Obama's close association with Mr. Wright. This raises legitimate questions about Mr. Obama's fundamental beliefs about his country. Those questions deserve a clearer answer than Mr. Obama has provided so far.

OBAMAGANDA: CHANGE AND OBEY. YOUR CHOICE?

At tent revivals they often pass the basket around exhorting the faithful to "Dig deep brothers for the good work!"

In this spirit the Obama Online store is now offering up a chunk of iconic propaganda by propaganda-ironist Shepard Fairey. Fairey got his start with stylized tagging and riffing off of Andre the Giant. He'd whack off a few of these images and then go out and stick them up on things. An "artist" with a message, you see.

The Soviet Union collapsed, but Marxists did not disappear. For example, the Castro brothers still run Cuba, Daniel Ortega is back in charge of Nicaragua and African Marxists are vying for power in their homelands.
