I won't question yours if you won't dis mine

Barack Obama's Patriotism
by John Hinderaker of Powerline

Barack Obama gave a speech on patriotism today in Missouri. As always when Obama waxes "eloquent," the media swooned. And, as always, the speech raised interesting questions if you actually read it.

The implicit premise of the speech was that Obama's patriotism is being widely questioned. As far as I've seen, that isn't true. What has happened is that Obama's judgment and political ideology have been questioned because he has chosen to associate himself closely with people who manifestly are not patriotic, like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright.

In his speech today, Obama said that America "is the greatest country on Earth." I'm happy to assume he means it, although whether Obama ever means what he says is an open question. But how, then, did Jeremiah "God damn America" Wright become Obama's spiritual guardian for twenty years? And how do we reconcile Obama's "greatest country on earth" rhetoric with the cynical comment by his political sponsor Bill Ayers on Ayers' own acquittal: "Guilty as sin, free as a bird. What a great country!" Obama failed to acknowledge, let alone answer, the questions that are raised by these associations.

To the crowd's applause, Obama vowed that "I will never question the patriotism of others in this campaign." That's big of him, I guess--he won't try to tell us that John McCain is unpatriotic. Although, actually, his campaign surrogates have done just that. And it's worth noting that in the small-minded, partisan jabs against President Bush that he needlessly inserted into the speech, Obama came perilously close to questioning the patriotism of our current President. That kind of mean-spirited pettiness is sadly typical of Obama.

Finally, Obama's surprising ignorance of American history, on which we have commented a number of times, was again on display. As a liberal, Obama sees patriotism mostly in dissent. In fact, rather than asserting that dissent may be patriotic, he seems to assume, perversely, that opposing one's own government is always patriotic. His version of the history of the 1960s is hilariously inverted:

In the early years of the civil rights movement and the opposition to the Vietnam War, defenders of the status quo often accused anybody who questioned the wisdom of government policies of being unpatriotic.

Meanwhile, some of those in the so-called counter-culture of the '60s reacted not merely by criticizing particular government policies, but by attacking the symbols, and in extreme cases the very idea of America itself, by burning flags; by blaming America for all that was wrong with the world; and, perhaps most tragically, by failing to honor those veterans coming home from Vietnam, something that remains a national shame to this day.

This is the reverse of what actually happened. Antiwar, anti-American activists burned American flags, blamed America for everything that went wrong in the world, and attacked veterans. Normal Americans concluded, correctly, that these anti-Americans were not patriotic. Contrary to Obama's naive assumption, "dissent" is not always a good thing.

Wesley Clark: McCain Never Ordered Bombs to Fall

Democrat with military background assails McCain's credentials
WASHINGTON: With Senator Barack Obama planning to visit the Middle East and Europe in an apparent effort to burnish his foreign policy credentials, the credentials of his likely presidential rival, Senator John McCain, came under sharp attack Sunday from a man considered a possible Democratic vice presidential candidate.

The retired general Wesley Clark said McCain had not "held executive responsibility" and had not commanded troops in wartime.

McCain's experience in Vietnam, where he was a prisoner of war for five years, has seemed at times almost to grant him invulnerability to criticism of his security background. But on Sunday he was assailed by a fellow military man, a highly decorated one who was once the NATO supreme commander.

McCain frequently points out that he led "the largest squadron in the U.S. Navy," but Clark said on CBS television that that was not enough to support a claim to the presidency.

"He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall" as a wartime commander, the general said on CBS. Clark is mentioned as a possible Obama running mate, although he originally supported Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

When the interviewer, Bob Schieffer, noted to Clark that McCain had been shot down over Hanoi, Clark replied, "I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president."

Bill Clinton says Barack Obama must 'kiss my ass' for his support

By Tim Shipman in Washington and Philip Sherwell in New York -- 1:13AM BST 29/06/2008 -- telegraph.co.uk

Bill Clinton is so bitter about Barack Obama's victory over his wife Hillary that he has told friends the Democratic nominee will have to beg for his wholehearted support.

Mr Obama is expected to speak to Mr Clinton for the first time since he won the nomination in the next few days, but campaign insiders say that the former president's future campaign role is a "sticking point" in peace talks with Mrs Clinton's aides.

The Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his intransigence.

A senior Democrat who worked for Mr Clinton has revealed that he recently told friends Mr Obama could "kiss my ass" in return for his support.

NYC councilman: Criticism of Mugabe is racist

New Yorkers and longtime HA readers will know exactly which councilman it is. For the rest, it’s Charles Barron, who dabbles in apologizing for the worst socialist degenerate dictators when he isn’t busy calling black cops “house negroes” or fantasizing about slapping white people randomly for his mental health. He played host to Mugabe in NYC six years ago; these days he confines himself to denying that his pal’s thugs are raping and murdering women from the opposition. The Magical Mystery Tour

Obama to Visit Europe, Mideast
By AMY CHOZICK -- The Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama plans to visit Europe and the Middle East this summer, an attempt to ease heated Republican criticism over his foreign policy and national security credentials.

The Obama campaign announced Saturday that the presumptive Democratic nominee will visit Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Jordan and Israel. Aides said they can't reveal exact dates due to security reasons but by most accounts the trip will occur in mid-July.

"This trip will be an important opportunity for me to assess the situation in countries that are critical to American national security and to consult with some of our closest friends and allies about the common challenges we face," Sen. Obama said in a statement.

. . . Former Central Intelligence Agency Director James Woolsey, who is advising the McCain campaign, said last week Sen. Obama has "an extremely dangerous and extremely naïve approach toward terrorism."

The Ever-Malleable Mr. Obama

By Charles Krauthammer

Obama's long march to the center has begun.

And why not? What's the downside? He won't lose the left, or even mainstream Democrats. They won't stay home on Nov. 4. The anti-Bush, anti-Republican sentiment is simply too strong. Election Day is their day of revenge -- for the Florida recount, for Swift-boating, for all the injuries, real and imagined, dealt out by Republicans over the past eight years.

How Obama can lose

Posted June 28, 2008 7:00 AM -- The Swamp -- Baltimore Sun
By Paul West

Barack Obama is on his way to a blowout victory this fall, if you believe recent polling that shows him leading John McCain by 15 percentage points.

Big, summertime leads in presidential contests can vanish, though. Comparisons are already being drawn with 1988 Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis, who looked like a mortal lock after he bounced, in late July, to a 17-point advantage over George H. W. Bush.

Obama could lose, too, if he can't make a convincing case to millions of undecided voters who regard him as a stranger, despite the fact that his name and face are recognized around the world.

how he could lose

We know the trivia, but what's behind the word CHANGE?

I just know 'vote for change.' I don't know what change. I know there has been a lot of media coverage, but I'm still waiting for the meat of it.

Founding Father of Canada's Socialized Medicine Rejects the Monster He Helped Create

moonbattery.com

If we follow Canada over the edge and into the abyss of socialized medicine, it won't be because we weren't warned of the consequences:

Back in the 1960s, [Claude] Castonguay chaired a Canadian government committee studying health reform and recommended that his home province of Quebec — then the largest and most affluent in the country — adopt government-administered health care, covering all citizens through tax levies.

The government followed his advice, leading to his modern-day moniker: "the father of Quebec medicare." Even this title seems modest; Castonguay's work triggered a domino effect across the country, until eventually his ideas were implemented from coast to coast.

Four decades later, as the chairman of a government committee reviewing Quebec health care this year, Castonguay concluded that the system is in "crisis."

"We thought we could resolve the system's problems by rationing services or injecting massive amounts of new money into it," says Castonguay. But now he prescribes a radical overhaul: "We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice."

Castonguay has been forced to reverse his views because authoritarianism has made such a mess of healthcare in Canada, people enter lotteries to win a doctor's appointment. Fortunately Canadians are still able to cross the border to a free country, where all you have to do to get medical attention is be willing to pay for it. But if Democrats have their way, that won't be the case for much longer.

Freedom works. Socialism doesn't work. Yet socialism means more power for the authorities, so we will have to keep fighting it off, no matter how many times it has been exposed as fundamentally dysfunctional.

Obama on the Supremes' Heller Decision

OBAMA on Fox News with Alexis Glick
Well, you know, I have said consistently that I believe the Second Amendment is an individual right. And that was the essential decision that the Supreme Court came down on. And it also recognized that, even though we have an individual right to bear arms, that — that right can be limited by sensible, reasonable gun laws.

The D.C. law, according to the Supreme Court, went too far. And now the key is going to be, I think, for us to come together and say, people do have an individual right, and there's nothing wrong with common sense gun laws, background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill, and creating what I think is the common sense belief among people that we can both uphold our traditions with respect to firearms and prevent the senseless killings that we see on the streets of so many American cities.

Sen. Sam Brownback on Obama's apparent flip-flop:

He initially comes out and says he believes in banning hand guns. He is for the D.C. gun ban. Now he seems to be sidestepping the issue. It's either an incredible flip-flop or incredible inexperience on this issue.

Obama on Gun Control

I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do we need to punish that man for his crime, but we need to acknowledge that there's a hole in his heart, one that government programs alone may not be able to repair.

Obama to get Hanuman idol

The Times of India

NEW DELHI: With Democrat senator Barack Obama busy in the run-up to the US presidential polls, a group of well-wishers in the capital have decided to send him a symbol of his lucky charm, Lord Hanuman, to help him emerge victorious.

Obama's representative Carolyn Sauvage-Mar on Tuesday received a gold-plated two-feet-high idol which she will pass it on to the Obama after it is sanctified.

The idol is being presented to Obama as he is reported to be a Lord Hanuman devotee and carries with him a locket of the monkey god along with other good luck charms.

An hour-long prayer meeting to sanctify the idol was earlier organised at Sankat Mochan Dham and by Congress leader Brijmohan Bhama, Balmiki Samaj and the temple's priests.

"Obama has deep faith in Lord Hanuman and that is why we are presenting an idol of Hanuman to him," said Bhama.

Is the Democratic candidate starting to symbolize change for change’s sake?

By Jim Geraghty | NRO Contributor | June 25, 2008
It’s extremely unlikely that Barack Obama and his campaign will get in legal trouble for featuring a revised version of the presidential seal. But like Michael Dukakis riding in a tank or John Kerry declaring that he voted for war funding before he voted against it, we may have just witnessed one of those unexpected moments that, in retrospect, comes to define one of the candidate’s unflattering traits.

The decision to create the “Seal of Obamerica” seems like an almost deliberate response to Peggy Noonan’s column about the difference between “Old America” and “New America,” and how each party’s candidate embodies one of the two. When President Bush speaks, the Obama campaign doesn’t just want to change the rhetoric, the policies, and the man behind the lectern; apparently the seal seems a bit stodgy and old-fashioned for their tastes as well.

Obama campaign drops seal on podium

(Examiner.com) WASHINGTON - After days of media mockery, Barack Obama has decided to stop using a presidential-looking seal that his campaign designed and affixed to his podium on Friday.

Journalists said the seal, which features an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, smacks of arrogance. John McCain's camp had a field day, calling the seal “laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing - all at the same time.”

The seal was conspicuously missing from Obama's lectern when he spoke to a group of women in Albuquerque on Monday. Not surprising, given how much grief Obama took from a normally laudatory press corps after unveiling the seal at an appearance in Chicago on Friday.

“What a bizarre and dumb idea,” railed NBC political director Chuck Todd. “It really feeds the arrogance narrative.”

12 Reasons why Clinton Supporters Won't Vote for Obama

By Rebecca Traister - Salon.com

. . . This list is not comprehensive. It is based on interviews with women at Clinton's June 3 nonconcession speech and her June 7 concession speech, and on comments I heard from some attendees at an EMILY's List conference a week after Clinton bowed out. It undoubtedly misrepresents the feelings of any number of Hillary heads. This is merely an attempt to give space to, describe and otherwise make a record of the grievances of a number of deeply committed political people who have just had their hearts broken. So without further ado: an incomplete taxonomy of post-primary rage

We are No Longer a Christian Nation

Obama, you're wrong. The fact is, America is a Christian nation:
Christian - 78.4%
Protestant - 51.3%, Catholic - 23.9%, Mormon - 1.7%, Jehovah's Witness - 0.7%, Orthodox - 0.6%, Other Christian - 0.3%

Other religions:
Jewish - 1.7
Muslim - 0.6
Buddhist - 0.7
Hindu - 0.4
other faiths - 1.2
unaffiliated - 16.1

Meanwhile, Obama snubs Muslims

With Obama's track record with Reverend Wright, etc., no wonder he attracts people who make hateful comments at his official website:

I take issue with him being a christian, because christianity breeds hatred and racism and all other manner of ill-will toward other human beings, but I’m not gonna fault him for it. As far as belief goes, we can all do better than christianity. I believe in God, I just don’t have any trust or faith in anyone who calls themselves a christian-they are some of the most hateful and vicious, cruel and spiteful ravenous greediest wolves on the planet, and with rare exception. Had it not been for “christians,” there would have been no slavery in America and none of this kind of racism for any of us to deal with in the first place.

Anti-Terror Oops -- Barack Bumbles Legal Question

By SCOTT W. JOHNSON - June 23, 2008 - New York Post

SPEAKING without a text in front of him, Barack Obama betrays a troubling lack of knowledge on important issues - such as the law and terrorism.

In his ABC interview last Monday, for example, Obama attacked the Bush approach on fighting terror. He claimed that, in the case of "the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in US prisons, incapacitated."

As an assistant US attorney, Andrew McCarthy prosecuted the perpetrators of the 1993 WTC attack. He calls Obama's statement "a remarkably ignorant account of the American experience with jihadism."

Writing for National Review Online, McCarthy notes: "While the government managed to prosecute many people responsible for the 1993 WTC bombing, many also escaped prosecution because of the limits on civilian criminal prosecution.

Why do They All Hope He is Lying?

Posted by Lexington Green on June 18th, 2008

It is weird how so many who claim to like Obama hope he is lying. Three examples come to mind immediately:

1. People who like free trade hope he was lying to the voters of Ohio about tearing up NAFTA. He can’t really have meant that.

2. People who like the idea of bipartisanship ignore the fact that he is the most partisan Senator in the whole chamber.

3. People who want to believe he will be an incarnation of Leftist hopes and dreams will try to believe that this list of stodgy foreign policy advisers is a subterfuge.

Usually you hope someone you want to vote for is telling the truth. You hope that he will carry through consistently with his track record, and that he will do what he says he will do.

Why is Obama different?

My speculation: Because Obama’s vacuous campaign of “change” is meant to create a blank whiteboard that everyone can project their fantasy scenarios onto. It is a brilliant marketing gimmick. Every time that Obama seems to suggest an actual direction, it jars with the fantasy, and causes cognitive dissonance and irritation, and a pronouncement that the REAL Obama is the one in my head, not the one who intermittently articulates the ghostly outline of a coherent policy position.

Obama: They're going to make you afraid that I'm black

Wolf Blitzer of CNN plays audio from the campaign trail in Jacksonville, Florida.

From Hugh Hewitt:

Obama's casual slander of his opponents tells us everything about Obama and nothing about McCain or McCain's campaign. A day after Obama broke his promise to use public financing and the same week in which Obama ducks townhall forums with McCain that the Democratic nominee had previously agreed to, Obama plays a victim card, asking voters to feel sorry for him because he will be subject to attacks on his race by John McCain.

Barack Obama is coming into focus very quickly for America, and for the vast majority of Americans, who are neither racist nor stupid, this slander of McCain, the victim rhetoric and the easy ability to break words and commitments will not impress. At first Obama seemed just like a hard left radical with a nice personality. Now he seems like a hard-left radical willing to say anything to get to the top. Telling his supporters that he will be the subject of racist attacks by his opponent sows the seeds of an extremely divisive campaign which will sprout into imagined grievances that will endure long after the campaign ends regardless of who wins.

If racist appeals to vote against Obama appear, John McCain and theGOP and every other center-right voice in America will instantly denounce them. Obama knows this, as do his senior advisors, as does the MSM. To play the victim now is to allow Obama's supporters to begin to nurse resentments that are wholly fictional but which are deeply destructive, and warns us all that Obama isn't about "change" at all. He's about winning, whatever the cost.

choreographing everything -- even the fake homemade signs

Passing out the signs at the Obama rally

I had front row access today at a Sen. Obama's rally today here in Corpus Christi, TX. I was even able to shake the senator's hand and say "hi." I think we all know by now that everything in politics is staged. I recorded someone from the Obama campaign passing out signs made by the campaign that looked homemade for people to hold up. I thought it was interesting how the process works. When someone from the campaign was coming toward my direction with a sign that said "Tejanos for Obama," I held to my camcorder tightly because I didn't want to be holding a sign just because I'm Hispanic.

Barack’s Social Security A-Bama-Nation

The Democratic nominee wants to turn a pension program into another wealth redistribution scheme.

June 21, 2008 - by Tom Blumer - Pajamas Media

For the first time in the history of Social Security, Obama would impose the payroll tax on a group of people — anyone earning over $250,000 from work or self-employment — who would receive no additional benefit in return. The Illinois senator would carve out a “doughnut hole,” sparing those who earn between the current maximum taxable earnings of $102,000 and $250,000 from having to pay any additional tax.

This is a tax increase that is stunning in both size and scope, as this chart shows:

. . . Obama’s proposal thus officially severs the earnings/benefit linkage for the first time in the 70-year history of Social Security. As Jim Taranto wrote in the Wall Street Journal on Monday:

Obama’s proposal to use Social Security as a means for taxing “the rich” amounts to a repudiation of the program’s original New Deal conception. Social Security is supposed to be a pension for workers, not a redistribution scheme. That is why Democrats have, over the years, resisted efforts at means testing — i.e., preventing the wealthy from collecting benefits. Obama’s proposal would convert Social Security into nothing more than another welfare program.

The Great Seal of Obamaland

The Caucus -- NYT Blog
At a discussion with a dozen Democratic governors in Chicago on Friday morning, each of the governors was identified with a small name plate but Senator Barack Obama sat behind a low rostrum to which was attached an official-looking seal no one had seen before.

It is emblazoned with a fierce-looking eagle clutching an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other and is deliberately reminiscent of the official seal of the president of the United States. Around the top border are the words “Obama for America;” across the bottom is the campaign’s Web address. It also contains the logo of the Obama campaign, variously interpreted as a sunrise or a view down an open road.

Just above the eagle’s head are the words “Vero Possumus,” roughly translated “Yes we can.” Not exactly E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One), the motto on the presidential seal and the dollar bill.

Obama's Heartland Ad

This ad will air in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Virginia. That marks the official Obama battleground.

Powerline has checked the facts:

In the ad, Obama claims credit for three pieces of legislation. In one case, the claim is reasonable. The other two are bogus.

Obama says that "I... cut taxes for working families," citing Illinois Public Act: PA 91-0700, the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit of 2000. Given the collaborative nature of any legislation, Obama's claim that "I cut taxes" is pretentious at best. As it happens, though, Obama was only a minor player with respect to the Earned Income Tax Credit Act. In fact, he was not one of the bill's chief sponsors. He signed on as one of 37 co-sponsors on April 15, 2000, shortly before the act was signed into law on May 11.

In the ad, Obama also claims that "I…extended health care for wounded troops who had been neglected." Wow, that's quite an accomplishment for a single Senator. The ad cites Public Law 110-181, the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. Funny thing, though: Obama didn't show up to vote on that bill in the Senate. So it's hard to see how Obama can take credit for having personally "extended health care for wounded troops."

But that's Obamaworld--the facts are optional.

Rove: Obama and McCain Spout Economic Nonsense

Wall Street Journal Opinion -- KARL ROVE, June 19, 2008; Page A13

Barack Obama and John McCain are busy demonstrating that in close elections during tough economic times, candidates for president can be economically illiterate and irresponsibly populist.

In Raleigh, N.C., last week, Sen. Obama promised, "I'll make oil companies like Exxon pay a tax on their windfall profits, and we'll use the money to help families pay for their skyrocketing energy costs and other bills."

Set aside for a minute that Jimmy Carter passed a "windfall profits tax" to devastating effect, putting American oil companies at a competitive disadvantage to foreign competitors, virtually ending domestic energy exploration, and making the U.S. more dependent on foreign sources of oil and gas.

Instead ask this: Why should we stop with oil companies? They make about 8.3 cents in gross profit per dollar of sales. Why doesn't Mr. Obama slap a windfall profits tax on sectors of the economy that have fatter margins? Electronics make 14.5 cents per dollar and computer equipment makers take in 13.7 cents per dollar, according to the Census Bureau. Microsoft's margin is 27.5 cents per dollar of sales. Call out Mr. Obama's Windfall Profits Police!

Obama gets help on Foreign Policy

John Hinderaker at Powerline:

Barack Obama, evidently stung by the fact that his statements on foreign policy have come across as naive at best, ignorant at worst, has gone looking for reinforcements in the form of a new team of national security advisers. The new team includes thirteen members, not counting the 41 retired admirals and generals with whom he also met today. Obama's media availability featuring the announcement of his "new team" took place before a backdrop of 17 American flags. That must be Obama's famous "nuance" at work.

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama's rally in Detroit Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women's headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The campaign has apologized to the women, both Obama supporters who said they felt betrayed by their treatment at the rally.

Early reaction to Al Gore's Obama endorsement: Yawn

Obama Plans Trip Pre-Election Day Visit to Iraq and Afghanistan

The Caucus - NYT Political Blog

FLINT, Mich. – Senator Barack Obama said today he intends to visit Iraq and Afghanistan before the November election.

Mr. Obama, who spoke to the Iraqi foreign minister by telephone this morning, said he was “encouraged” by the reductions in violence in Iraq. But he said the United States still must begin gradually withdrawing troops, at a pace of one to two brigades a month, with a goal of removing most combat troops in 16 months.

Obama says terrorists have rights

June 16, 2008 1:11 PM -- Jake Tapper

Barack Obama:

And it is my firm belief that we can track terrorists, we can crack down on threats against the United States, but we can do so within the constraints of our Constitution. And there has been no evidence on their part that we can't.

And, you know, let's take the example of Guantanamo. What we know is that, in previous terrorist attacks -- for example, the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in U.S. prisons, incapacitated.

And the fact that the administration has not tried to do that has created a situation where not only have we never actually put many of these folks on trial, but we have destroyed our credibility when it comes to rule of law all around the world, and given a huge boost to terrorist recruitment in countries that say, "Look, this is how the United States treats Muslims."

"John McCain thinks the Supreme Court was wrong," Obama said. "I think the Supreme Court was right."

McCain campaign Foreign Policy Advisor Randy Scheunemann said in response: "Barack Obama's belief that we should treat terrorists as nothing more than common criminals demonstrates a stunning and alarming misunderstanding of the threat we face from radical Islamic extremism. Obama holds up the prosecution of the terrorists who bombed the World Trade Center in 1993 as a model for his administration, when in fact this failed approach of treating terrorism simply as a matter of law enforcement rather than a clear and present danger to the United States contributed to the tragedy of September 11th. This is change that will take us back to the failed policies of the past and every American should find this mindset troubling."

Al Gore says he'll endorse Obama

Jun 16, 4:16 PM (ET)

By NEDRA PICKLER

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Al Gore is endorsing Barack Obama and promising to help the Democrat achieve what eluded him - the presidency.

In a letter to be e-mailed to Obama supporters, the former vice president and Nobel Prize winner wrote, "From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected president of the United States."

Ideological descendants of Marx and Rousseau now lead the Democratic Party and they have turned it into a disloyal opposition to an increasingly
accommodating GOP. They have molded the Party into a force working stridently and unashamedly against a Commander in Chief during wartime. They have made
it a den of treachery devoted to American defeat in Iraq. They preside over an institution advised and influenced by moneyed, non-governmental groups
and individuals with unquestionably anti-U.S. agendas who help make the Party a pseudo-intellectual sinkhole filled with perverse, tried-and-failed ideas repulsive to the majority of Americans. Those ideas are shaped into agendas which are then forced on the public by an activist leftwing judiciary and by a major media and arts consortium shot through with utter disrespect, indeed contempt, for traditional American values, religions and institutions. The Democratic Party has devolved into a club for the illegitimately aggrieved, the self-absorbed, the self-hating and the perpetually [angry]. It is a sanctuary where solipsistic malcontents and their disjointed causes find refuge and support. It has long ceased being an earnest gathering of broad minds where man's timeless problems are examined against the backdrop of the Constitution and solutions to them proposed based on the actual realities of the human condition...[Barack] Obama is in step with that radical element and with that leadership. ---Rocco DiPippo

The problem on the Left is, now that Karl Marx has forsaken them, they have no philosophy. Thank goodness. Think what evil creeps liberals would be if their plans to enfeeble the individual, exhaust the economy, impede the rule of law, and cripple national defense were guided by a coherent ideology instead of smug ignorance. As for our side, conservatism is a gut reaction for most of us, and a done deal for the rest. The moral philosophy of American politics can be explained briefly and clearly, and, the Constitution being written, it has been. Where is there a philosopher in Washington?" ---P.J. O'Rourke

Obama's Tax Hikes

by Hugh Hewitt at 9:12 AM - Monday, June 16, 2008

Obama's vast array of proposed tax hikes --6.2% on every dollar above 102K in income, doubling the capital gains tax, bringing back the highest rate on death taxes etc-- would be a shock to the economic health of the country far more devastating than the run-up in gas prices because there are no ways to avoid or minimize taxes. The Obama plan would take a period of economic weaknesses and turn it into a recession or even a near depression.

21.8% of American families make over $100,000 per household, and 11 million Americans made more than $100,000 in 2005, with another 4 million in the income categories just below that level. Tens of millions of Americans strive to reach the six figure level, and if the cannot they hope their children will. Obama is planning to congratulate them on their achievment by adding an enormous burden to their entire careers: $6.20 out of every additional hundred they make off the top, then it is on the federal, state and local taxes on the rest.

Ohio judge: Who cares about lethal injection -- I have posters of Che Guevara and Barack Obama on my wall

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — A judge in Ohio says the state's method of putting prisoners to death is unconstitutional because two of three drugs used in the lethal injection process can cause pain.

Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge said Tuesday the state's lethal injection procedure doesn't provide the quick and painless death required by Ohio law.

Gore Vidal -- US needs 100 years to recover from Bush

From correspondents in Madrid | June 15, 2008 | The Australian

IT will take the the United States a century to recover from the damage wreaked by President George W Bush, US writer Gore Vidal said in an interview published today.

"The president behaved like a virtual criminal but we didn't have the courage to sack him for fear of violating the American constitution,'' Mr Vidal told the El Mundo newspaper.

The author, a trenchant critic of the US-led invasion of Iraq, said it would take the United States 100 years to repair the damage caused by Bush.

"We live in a dictatorship. We have a fascist government ...which controls the media,''

An Illustrated Guide to Obama’s Gun-Grabbing

It is rather ironic that Obama chose to use a firearms metaphor at a fundraiser this weekend when speaking about countering Republican attacks. “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama is reported to have said.

Ironic - because the fact of the matter is that the Obama campaign recognizes no constitutional right to own firearms for personal or community defense.

If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun

Amy Chozick reports on the presidential race from Philadelphia.
(Wall Street Journal)

Mobster wisdom tells us never to bring a knife to a gun fight. But what does political wisdom say about bringing a gun to a knife fight?

That’s exactly what Barack Obama said he would do to counter Republican attacks “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

The comment drew some laughs and applause. But it also struck a chord with his Republican rival. John McCain’s campaign immediately accused the Democratic candidate of playing the politics of fear. They also mentioned that Obama said he would use a gun that would be illegal under Obama’s plans to cut down on illegal firearms.

“Barack Obama’s call for ‘new politics’ is officially over. In just 24 hours, Barack Obama attacked one of America’s pioneering women CEOs, rejected a series of joint bipartisan town halls, and said that if there’s a political knife fight, he’d bring a gun,” McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

Obama made the comment in the context of warning donors that the general election campaign against McCain could get ugly. “They’re going to try to scare people. They’re going to try to say that ‘that Obama is a scary guy,’” he said. A supporter yelled out a deep accented “Don’t give in!”

“I won’t but that sounded pretty scary. You’re a tough guy,” Obama said.

High-ranking TN Dem: Obama got terrorist connection?

Fred Hobbs, a state Democratic Party Executive Committee member representing part of [U.S. Rep. Lincoln] Davis'' district, said he understands why Davis is not endorsing Obama and is "skeptical" of the Illinois senator himself.

"Maybe [it's] the same reason I don't want to - I don't exactly approve of a lot of the things he stands for and I'm not sure we know enough about him," [Fred] Hobbs said when asked why he thought Davis wasn't endorsing Obama. "He's got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be."

Davis was not made available for comment.

His chief of staff, Beecher Frasier, said he doesn't know for sure if Obama is "terrorist connected" but he assumes he's not.

James Johnson criticized for favorable loans he received from a sub-prime mortgage lender now under federal investigation

By John McCormick and Mike Dorning | Tribune reporters
8:44 PM CDT, June 11, 2008

An embattled member of Sen. Barack Obama's vice presidential search team quit Wednesday following criticism of favorable loans he received from a sub-prime mortgage lender now under federal investigation.

James Johnson, a longtime Washington insider whose roots go back to the Carter administration, resigned from Obama's three-person vetting team following four days of controversy over his personal loans with preferential terms.

"Jim did not want to distract in any way," Obama said in a statement. "We have a very good selection process under way, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead."

It was a complete reversal for the Illinois Democrat from his statements the previous day, when Obama stood by Johnson and suggested there was no need to "vet the vetters."

. . . Unlike a controversy this spring involving Obama's longtime Chicago pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., Obama moved much more quickly to distance himself from questions encircling Johnson.

"He's learned he's got to have a war room and turn things around rapidly or he'll get hammered," said James Thurber, director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University in Washington.

Barack Obama And His Marxist Friends And Family

Black And White And Red All Over

Its sounds too good to be true, but our days of supporting only weak liberal progressives are at an end. With Barack Obama we finally have a true Comrade.

Understandably he doesn't admit to being a Marxist, however all one has to do is look at his friends and family, many who were openly Marxist to know he is a fellow traveler.

It starts with his parents, followed by his mentor Frank Marshall Davis, onto Chicago where he was supported by several good leftist, and finally his Official campaign blogger who is also a contributor to the Socialist Viewpoint magazine.
You may ask how can we be sure, after all he sort of walks and talks like a capitalist? Clearly he's a Marxist in Progressive clothing. Just ask any unenlightened capitalist how many Communist friends and family members they have. I willing to guess most will say not one. So how else can you explain Obama's lifelong association with one true believer after another. The answer is as plain as the Hammer and Sickle on our flag. -- He Is One Of Us.

Stanley Ann Dunham Obama Soetoro aka Mom

Ann Dunham was a radical leftist and cultural Marxist. She lived in the Seattle area; spending her teenage years in Seattle 's coffee shops with other young radical leftist. Obama a claims his mother's family were conservative Methodists or Baptists from Kansas However his mother's parents were members of left-wing Unitarian church near Seattle.
The church located in Bellevue, Washington was nicknamed "the little red church," because of it's communist leanings.

The school Ann attended, Mercer Island High School, was a hotbed of pro-Marxist radical teachers. John Stenhouse, board member, told the House Un-American Activities Subcommittee that he had been a member of the Communist Party USA and this school has a number of Marxists on it's staff. Two teachers at this school, Val Foubert and Jim Wichterman, both Frankfurt School style Marxists, taught a critical theory curriculum to students which include rejection of societal norms, attacks on Christianity, the traditional family, and assigned readings by Karl Marx. The hallway between Foubert's and Wichterman classrooms was sometimes called "anarchy ally."

Barack Hussein Obama Sr.

In 1965 Obama Sr. wrote an important paper titled "Problems Facing Our Socialism", published in the East Africa Journal, harshly criticizing the blueprint for national planning titled "African Socialism and Its Applicability to Planning in Kenya" produced by Tom Mboya's Ministry of Economic Planning and Development.
Obama's paper put him on the side of communist-allied leader Oginga Odinga against pro-Western 'third way" leader Tom Mboya and the President of Kenya Jomo Kenyatta.

Frank Marshall Davis

In Hawaii, Barack was mentored by a member of the Communist Party by the name of Frank Marshall Davis. Davis, who Obama calls only “Frank” in his memoir “Dreams from My Father” was an unrepentant communist. He stayed with the Communist Party even after the Hitler-Stalin pact. That’s why he is referred to as “a Stalinist agent.”
Other prominent black Americans who had gotten into the Communist Party had left it because it had become an apologist for some horrible crimes not only committed by Stalin but by the Soviet system. Yet Frank Marshall Davis stayed with the party and wrote some infamous poems not only defending the Soviet Union but attacking the United States.

Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn

You know the connection but keep in mind that the Weather Underground terrorists, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, were communist terrorists. They were not just '60s radicals. These were people who openly supported the communist enemy killing Americans in Vietnam. Some of the members in this group, including Dohrn, had traveled to Havana, Cuba, to get instructions from the communists about how to wage their campaign in the United States.

Sen. Alice Palmer and Dr. Quentin Young

According to the public evidence Obama launched his political career in Chicago at the home of Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers. Other people who were there include then-state Sen. Alice Palmer and a Dr. Quentin Young. Those two people are almost as significant as Ayers and Dohrn.

There are two reports that state Sen. Palmer had been involved in a Communist Party front group called the U.S. Peace Council and had actually made a trip to the old Soviet Union.

Dr. Quentin Young had been accused of involvement and membership in the Communist Party, and he refused to answer as well when he was called before a committee to explain his financial support for radicals who were behind the riots in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention back in 1968.

Sam Graham-Felsen

Hired to run Obama's blog, writes in a Marxist publications that openly calls for revolution against the American government.
Sam is a former writer for the leftist Nation magazine and a contributor to the Socialist Viewpoint, is certainly a believer in class warfare. The product of a Harvard education, Sam is an admirer of anti-American academic Noam Chomsky, a great political philosopher. Mr. Chomsky is fond of visiting dictators and terrorists and giving speeches blaming all the worlds' ills on America.

Obama’s New Advisor Stained by Clinton Pardon Scandal

Cocky Ignorance

this is a must-read by Thomas Sowell

. . . do the media even care whether Senator Obama knows what he is talking about? Or is the symbolism of "the first black President" paramount, even if that means a President with cocky ignorance at a time of national danger?

The media have been crucial to Barack Obama's whole candidacy. His only achievements of national significance in his entire career have been media achievements and rhetorical achievements.

Perhaps his greatest achievement has been running as a candidate with an image wholly incompatible with what he has actually been doing for decades. This man who is now supposedly going to "unite" us has for years worked hand in glove, and contributed both his own money and the taxpayers' money, to people who have sought to divide us in the most crude demagogic ways.

With all his expressed concern about the war in Iraq, he has not set foot in Iraq for more than two years-- including the very years when progress has been made against the terrorists there.

You don't need to know the facts when you have cocky ignorance and the media behind you.

Okla. Dem calls Obama liberal, declines to endorse

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Democratic Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma said Tuesday Barack Obama is "the most liberal senator" in Congress and he has no intention of endorsing him for the White House.

However, Boren will vote for Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August and will vote Democratic on Nov. 4.

"I think this is an important time for our country," Boren said in a telephone interview. "We're facing a terrible economic downturn. We have high gasoline prices. We have problems in our foreign policy. That's why I think it's important."

Boren, the lone Democrat in Oklahoma's congressional delegate, said that while Obama has talked about working with Republicans, "unfortunately, his record does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion."

Boren, a self-described centrist, is seeking a third term this year in a mostly rural district that stretches across eastern Oklahoma.

"We're much more conservative," Boren said of district. "I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen them." He called Obama "the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate."

Hillary Rodham Clinton carried Boren's district with 66 percent of the vote in the state's presidential primary in February.

Too me, the audience looks stunned and quiet. You can hear maybe one person yelling out. Everyone else is quiet or slightly laughing -- the "I can't hear myself think" comment doesn't ring true.

The video doesn't show it, but this is how he continued:

Everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early and they got some treatment, and a, a breathalyzer, or inhalator, not a breathalyzer. Laura Bush defends Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama has a new defender from those who say she isn’t patriotic enough — First Lady Laura Bush. In an interview with ABC News, Bush said that Obama’s February remark that she was proud of the United States “for the first time in my adult life” was misconstrued.

“I think she probably meant ‘I’m more proud.’ That’s what she really meant,” Bush said from Afghanistan.

“You have to be really careful in what you say because everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued,” she said.

Some commentators have said the remarks show that Obama, wife of likely Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, does not love her country.

Bush also praised her White House predecessor, Hillary Clinton, who formally ended her bid to be the first female president on Saturday.

Willie Horton Ad Maker Goes Web 2.0 With Attacks Against Obama
Community organizing and peer-to-peer communications have worked out well so far in Barack Obama's presidential campaign. So well, in fact, that one group of conservative activists is co-opting one of the Obama campaign's online communications strategies to use it against him.

This new effort is a viral e-mail campaign that aims to frame Obama as a disastrous-for-the-country left-of-left liberal. It is on view at a website called ExposeObama.com.

A group of long-time Republican operatives run the effort, the most high-profile of whom is Floyd Brown, a communications and organizational consultant who created the infamous "Willie Horton" television advertisement that sank Democrat Michael Dukakis' 1988 presidential campaign.

Public Perceptions of Obama and McCain Shifting Rapidly

Rasmussen Reports data shows that public perceptions of both Barack Obama and John McCain are shifting rapidly during Election 2008. That same data suggests perceptions will continue to change through Election Day.

In December, before the Iowa caucuses launched Obama’s successful campaign for the nomination, the Illinois Senator was seen as politically liberal by 47% of voters nationwide. By April, that number had grown to 54%. Today, 67% see him as politically liberal including 36% who say he is Very Liberal.

A similar pattern is seen for John McCain. The presumptive Republican nominee was seen as politically conservative by 31% of all voters in December, by 41% in April, and by 67% today. Just 19% say he is Very Conservative.

Obama, a True Ideologue

June 9, 2008 - by Jennifer Rubin - Pajamas Media

It is a common complaint from George W. Bush’s critics that he is an “ideologue” or even the “most ideological president in history.” His critics, including the Democratic presidential contenders, often have argued that he ignores empirical evidence, whether about foreign policy or science, in order to maintain his devotion to predetermined and deeply held philosophical beliefs.

So shouldn’t pundits be wary of and be on the lookout for politicians who disregard the facts, overlook inconvenient evidence, and plunge ahead with their philosophically fixed plans, impervious to the real world? Well so far they seem utterly unconcerned that Barack Obama has racked up a fairly consistent record of doing just that.

Free trade: Obama’s own advisors and the overwhelming majority of economists agree that free trade agreements have created millions of jobs and benefited us both economically and diplomatically. Yet Obama advocates a new era of protectionism. He falsely tells crowds in the Rust Belt that NAFTA has cost us jobs (actually we have gained 26 million jobs since it was signed) and is responsible for untold economic distress. Ah, but you say, he doesn’t really mean that — this is not really ideology run amok, but pandering. Perhaps.

Health care: Both he and Hillary Clinton favor enormously expensive national plans which to one degree or another would require coverage and put the government in the position of subsidizing and regulating private insurance plans. However, we know now from empirical evidence in Massachusetts that these plans don’t result in universal coverage and are horrendously expensive. California’s Democratic-controlled legislature abandoned its idea for universal coverage because it simply cost too much. Does any of this affect Obama’s thinking? Apparently not.

Taxes: He likes the idea of increasing the capital gains tax. He does not much care for factual data demonstrating beyond any reasonable doubt that increasing the capital gains rates will decrease revenue. Rather, he has, dare we say, an ideological goal in mind: make the rich pay more, even if it costs the U.S. treasury money. At least he is honest about this one.

Foreign policy: He and other Democrats criticized President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for ignoring the facts on the ground in Iraq for years which indicated the country was descending into civil war. Yet since the military and political successes resulting from the surge have convinced even former war critics that real progress has been made, has Obama acknowledged the new facts and adjusted his views? Not quite.
